Evaluating Childhood Vaccinations
Evaluating the argument whether or not children should be vaccinated can be based off these:
- Depth- How does your answer address the complexities in the question? For each side of the issue, whether or not we should vaccine children, gives very detailed reasons and evidence regarding the pro's and con's of childhood vaccinations. The issue is so broad that more specific information and/or data could have been brought up regarding each individual vaccine and its benefits vs risks although I looked at the general picture of all immunizations given in childhood.
- Accuracy- Is that really true? For each of the reasons and evidence on both sides, the information (reasons and evidence) and all other components of the issue provided is taken from valid sources.
- Breadth- Do we need to consider another point of view? Given each of the view points on childhood vaccinations I can only think of one other different from pro and con which would be to vaccinate against some diseases but not all as required from the CDC. If we could eliminate some of the less serious disease vaccines we could allow for flexibility among each side.
- Logic- Does it make sense? Yes, each argument to the issue, pro and con identifies why or why we shouldn't vaccinate children based off of valid information and statistics given. If we look at each argument, we can clearly state why one could be for or against childhood vaccines.
- Fairness- Do I have a vested interest in this issue? Being a pediatric nurse, I am very interested in this issue because it not only affects myself but everyone around me. I work with childhood vaccines on a daily basis and evaluate the risks and benefits of giving vaccinations to many children around the community.
